Lifestyle of a Gentelman of Leisure: Home Entertainment

Who doesn’t love movies?
Right now, my two favorite early-relationship date ideas are:
1. Billiards.
2. Wine and a movie at my place.
I live in a somewhat shitty city with
absolute horseshit weather 8-9 months of the
year. Further, this relates to my own
personal style and what I am looking for in
relationships right now. For #2, I will spend
maybe $10-$20 (on average over time) with
some tasty finger foods we can feed each
other, fresh flowers, and candles. I always
make her contribute something/pick something
up … very important guys!
Now, for movies, what I want to do here is
create three separate lists:
1. Movies that are inspirational and help to
adjust or re-install the proper mindset as a
Gentleman of Leisure, as I like to call myself.
I have no problem watching these
once in a while with a regular girlfriend.
2. Great movies for dates. I would like to
have a list that I can pick and choose from
depending on the woman and the circumstance
and my own mood.
3. Eye Candy … this is great for small
gatherings, house parties, or when you and
your sweetie are cooking up something tasty in
the kitchen.
Lifestyle Considerations
Some people are more visual, some are more
auditory. Most of us have a primary dominant
sense. If movies are important for you to get
inspiration from, then investing in a decent
TV, Blu Ray and home theater might be
something to consider… My advice is, do not
buy based on what people think is cool or
technical specs designed to impress nerds….
buy the best you can for your money based on
the sensory experience it gives you. I am
planning to buy such a set up this year in
Canada… I already have one in my other home
on the island. I should really have it the
other way around, but anyway.
From an interior design perspective, here’s a
crucial tip: Do not make the entertainment
center the focus of the entire room or home.
This is a typical frustrated-guy mistake. Just
ponder the implications of the typical living
room setup; You become the servant to the media,
instead of the other way around. Maybe it’s time to
rearrange your room?
You can have it set up so that, if you and
your girl are watching a movie, just the two
of you, you can swivel the couch to face the
TV… or you can have one couch out of
several that permanently faces the TV… the
TV should be off to the side or in the
corner, never in the dead center, although
that is what probably 95% of people do
when setting up the room with the
entertainment center.
When you entertain groups of people, you’ll
often want music on or some eye candy (more
below). The last thing you want is for
everyone to be in a circle around the TV for
the entire visit. This discourages human
interaction and intimacy. If you’re going to
have people over for an entire weekend, then
it’s ok to be glued to the TV for a couple of
hours, then go back to human interaction. If
you put the TV dead center, then
psychologically you are encouraging people to
put their mental focus on the entertainment
instead of the people.
Whatever is on the TV should be beautiful,
but never more beautiful than you! You are
the center of the fucking universe in your
own home, capiche? If you put the TV like an
idol or monument at the dead center, this
frame is going to be much harder to achieve.
I hope this makes sense because it’s
crucially important!
Inspirational Movies
The right movie can make me feel energized,
determined, passionate, and masculine. I
think it should form part of a steady mental
diet for any Gentleman of Leisure. Here’s my list off the top
of my head, and I hope you guys will add to
it as I will, over time:
1. Fight Club. If only for Brad Pitt’s sheer
confidence and body language.
2. Snatch. Same reason. Also, it’s very-well
filmed and fucking funny.
3. Life is Beautiful. Optimism,
determination, and profound love of children
without spoiling them or supplicating to
them. Great story for dad’s like me.
4. Ocean’s 11, 12. Unflappability. Eye
Contact. Body Language.
5. The Patriot. Passion. Courage.
Determination.
6. Hitch. Flirting. Banter. Perseverance
without supplication.
7. Casino Royale. Like most James Bond
movies, great on eye contact, body language,
simple “coolness” of being the man.
8. The Godfather. How Michael is looked down
upon for his age but how he proves to be calm
and wise and courageous when called upon.
Marlon Brando a great example for older men.
Obviously I am not talking about the execution
of your enemies – although in a legal sense
that can be necessary, on occasion – but rather
I am talking about the unparalleled courage of
these two characters.
Date Movies
1. The Secretary. Great to test for a woman’s
kink side.
2. Hitch. One of those chick flicks that a
guy can watch without being humiliated or
bored to tears.
3. Quills. Lots of M/w lessons and how those
who suffer from it are really missing out on
adventure and fun. Great sexual innuendo and
conversation.
4. Wild at Heart. A great romance that
appeals to both men and women. Laura Dern
absolutely worships her hero, who is a simple
guy but totally alpha and courageous. The
part that appeals to chicks is that she wins
his heart. But he is a badass motherfucker!
5. Old school romances, like those starring
Marilyn Monroe, James Dean, and Cary Grant.
(Thanks to Evil Genius for this tip!)
Eye Candy
Don’t try this if your room is not set up the
way I described at the beginning of this
post! Whatever you can buy/afford in HD, then
that’s so much better. If done right, this
can be as effective as having a $10,000
aquarium with cool lighting in the living
room, if not more so. Consider the following:
1. Planet Earth. Stunning aerial shots of our
planet without a ton of chatter. (Movies
without good background music or with
irritating/distracting commentary - simply
shut the volume off).
2. Discovery Atlas: Italy Revealed. I love
Italy – the homeland of Casanova – for its
scenic beauty and its sensuality. Good choice
if your Eye Candy reflects your own
personality and what you love about yourself.
Consider it like a subliminal ad for why you
are such high quality cock!
3. There was a VHS tape that was filmed
entirely underwater with schools of fish and
sharks, etc., done to some very relaxing
music. I can’t for the life of me remember
the name but I am determined to get this on
DVD or Blu Ray. Better than your own live
aquarium, guaranteed.
More to come!
